Lauren Price appears to be on course for a potential superfight with three-weight undisputed world champion Claressa Shields.
Price is set to make her highly-anticipated return to the ring on Saturday night when she faces Stephanie Pineiro at the Utilita Arena in Cardiff.
The unbeaten 31-year-old is due to make the first defence of her unified WBC, WBA and IBF World welterweight titles against the durable Puerto Rican contender.
Whilst she looks to be focused on her upcoming clash with Pineiro, Price will have one eye on a potential match-up with American superstar Shields, who calls herself the Greatest Woman Of All Time.
Shields expressed declared an interest in a future showdown with Price where she vowed to drop down and face the Welsh star at a catchweight of 165lbs.
In an interview with The Puncher's Chance, Price shared her thoughts on a fight with Shields as she claims she is in boxing 'to fight the best'.
"Yeah definitely, it's massive. I think it makes for a great fight, you know, you look like we've both obviously been to the Olympics, she got two Olympic Gold Medals, I've got one, and then you look at obviously what she've achieved and you know, I'm in this game to fight the best and that's it."
Price was then asked if she is hopeful that a match-up with Shields can be made in Cardiff.
"Yeah, hopefully. Or if it's in America hopefully, you know, the second one is in Cardiff. Hopefully, you know, we can make like a [Katie] Taylor, [Amanda] Serrano. Maybe we can do the same."
Price must come through her showdown with Pineiro before she can look forward to a clash with Shields, but the prospect of facing one of the best of all time will be lingering on the mind of the Welsh superstar as she looks to cement her own legacy.
