Port Talbot's Joshua John is set to finally challenge for the coveted Lord Lonsdale belt in an intriguing domestic bout this summer.
The 31-year-old secured his opportunity at challenging for the British Bantamweight title back in June when he defeated Yorkshire's Logan Richardson over 10-rounds at The Galleries in Bristol.
John finds himself on an impressive run of form after he suffered the second defeat of his career to Liverpool's Brad Strand in their WBO European Super-Bantamweight title clash in December of 2023.
The Port-Talbot native is unbeaten in his last four bouts and will be looking to make it five in a row when he returns to the ring this summer.
As revealed by the British Boxing Board of Control, John will challenge Essex's Harvey Smith for the vacant British Bantamweight crown at Cardiff's Vale Sports Arena on Saturday July 4, in an event that will be promoted by Sanigar Events.
Smith, who has suffered just one defeat during his career to date, currently holds the Commonwealth Commonwealth title which is set to be up for grabs when he faces John in July.
The 25-year-old from Tilbury captured the Commonwealth title back in November of last year when he defeated Scotland's Lennon Mulligan via unanimous decision at the conclusion of their bout at the Hilton Hotel in Glasgow.
The stakes couldn't be higher for Joshua John as he begins his journey towards potentially becoming a holder of the coveted Lonsdale Belt and writing his own name into the Welsh boxing history books.
