Gerome Warburton Outworks Heaney To Close In On World Title Dream
Colwyn Bay's Gerome Warburton marked his long-awaited return to the ring with an impressive win over the popular Nathan Heaney on Saturday night.
'The Bread Maker' defeated Heaney via unanimous decision at the conclusion of their clash at the Co-op Live Arena in Manchester to claim the WBA Continental middleweight title.
Heaney started the fight well but Warburton eventually took control in the middle rounds and ultimately proved himself to be the deserved winner on the night.
The former Welsh middleweight champion is now expected to secure himself an official world ranking with the WBA which could generate a number of interesting opportunities for the 30-year-old.
Despite this, Warburton could instead be tempted by the prospect of securing himself another shot at the British Middleweight title, which is currently held by the unbeaten George Liddard.
Warburton challenged Kieron Conway for the British and Commonwealth middleweight titles in May of last year but suffered a disappointing fourth round stoppage in London.
Whilst it remains to be seen exactly what will be next for Warburton, 'The Bread Maker' will now be full of confidence after producing the best win of his professional career to date against the teak-tough Heaney.
