Matchroom Boxing's Eddie Hearn has issued an important update ahead of a potential showdown between WBO world lightweight champion Abdullah Mason and Cardiff's Joe Cordina.
Cordina established himself as the mandatory challenger for Mason's WBO crown back in December when he defeated Gabriel Flores Jr at the Stockton Arena in California.
'The Welsh Wizard' put on an impressive display against the highly-rated American to move into pole position to fight for the chance at becoming a two-weight, three-time world champion.
Speaking in an interview shortly after Cordina's victory over Flores, Hearn issued an update on the possibility of Cordina challenging Mason next.
"We don't really wanna have a fight in between because that's the problem now. He's not interested in just a tickover fight. He wants to go straight into a big fight ... There's some big fights but all he wants really is to become a three-time, two-division world champion. That's a great legacy that is. I mean, winning a world title is a great legacy, but doing it twice is even better and doing it in two divisions and three times, that's serious s--t."
Cordina appears to be back in the gym ahead of his return to the ring, with fans remaining hopeful that the Welsh star can finally secure his opportunity at capturing world honours once again.
